Bluetooth earbuds only play on one side or show duplicate phone entries
Request
My Bluetooth earbuds pair with my phone, but only one side plays. Sometimes the phone shows two Bluetooth entries, the app sees only one earbud, or the touch controls act wrong.
Treat this as a pairing-state problem first, not as a dead earbud. Many true-wireless earbuds pair left-to-right first, then present one combined device to the phone. If the phone saved the left and right sides separately, or one bud missed the case reset, you can get one-sided audio, duplicate entries, missing controls, or an app that only sees half the set.
Start with the clean reset path:
- Put both earbuds in the charging case and confirm both sides show a charge light or app battery reading.
- On the phone, forget every saved entry for the earbuds. Remove both left/right entries if the phone shows duplicates.
- Turn Bluetooth off on nearby phones, tablets, laptops, watches, or TVs that may auto-connect to one earbud.
- Reset the earbuds using the maker’s case or touch-control reset method. Keep both buds in the case unless the manual says otherwise.
- Close the case for about 10 seconds, open it, and pair only the main combined entry on the phone. Avoid entries that look like separate
L,R,LE, or control-only devices unless the manual tells you to use them. - Play audio before opening the companion app. If both sides work, then open the app and let firmware or control settings sync.
If one side is still silent, swap the test. Try the earbuds with a second phone, then try different earbuds with the first phone. This tells you whether the problem follows the earbuds or stays with the phone. Also clean the charging contacts gently and check whether the quiet side is actually charged; one bud can look seated in the case while not charging.
For calls and apps, expect some quirks. A phone may show a low-energy LE entry for controls or the app, while audio uses a separate main Bluetooth entry. That is normal if stereo audio works. It is not normal if the phone plays sound through only one side, the app never sees the second bud after a full reset, or the same bud refuses to charge.
Do not keep pairing every visible entry, and do not reset the phone’s whole network settings until you have tried forgetting only the earbuds, resetting the case, and testing a second device.
Stop here if the same side is dead on two phones, one earbud never charges, the case reset does nothing, the app reports a firmware update failure, the earbuds were dropped or got wet, or the problem started after buying a used/open-box pair with mismatched left and right buds. At that point, use the warranty, seller return, or brand support path rather than looping through phone settings.
