Pros: Powerful for its size and power consumption Works great as Dual-Boot, or with Virtualbox Take advantage of the m.2 slot and this thing is even better Cons: For Linux users, you may need to do a little extra work to get the video and networking setup since this has newer hardware and you will need a fairly current kernel. Overall Review: For the size and power consumption, this is a great little computer. I have it set up with 2 hdmi monitors, Debian and Win10 on a 2280 NVMe m.2 ssd, internal hdd as combo data and backup, and a couple external hdd’s occasionally plugged in for various purposes. The one review complaining that it comes with a normal hard drive is unfair. That is right there in the product description. Install an m.2 NVMe hard drive, transfer the os to it and use the hdd as a back up or data drive. By transferring the OS to a fairly vanilla m.2 ssd, you can boot to Linux in seconds and to Win10 in about 30. It will work to dual-boot Win10 and Linux, or you can run Linux and put Win10 in Virtualbox so you can do both at the same time. I bought this to set up a second computer to use while out of town, but it could end up replacing my normal desktop.

Pros: -Although it can struggle running most AAA titles at 1080P60FPS, it is great overall for Esports titles (i.e. Rocket League and CS:GO) and emulation -Supports NVMe m.2 SSD for fast boot/transfer times -2.5″ drive bay that is already populated by a 1TB HDD (not recommended to have as a main boot drive but secondary drive for Steam library, NAS, ect.) -Excellent heat dissipation and thermals -2 HDMI ports for dual monitor setups -VESA mount compatible Cons: -Not being a fan of the read/write speeds of mechanical hard drives, I did rip that one out and replaced it with a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB SSD for my Steam library for fast load times -Reinstalling Windows 10 on my Samsung 970 EVO 500GB NVMe m.2 SSD was something that was necessary to get those faster boot times but nothing to complain about -Any main bottleneck in this system would come from its i3-8121U 2 core 4 thread processor. Although I did not experience any main bottlenecks as I mostly game and do light video editing, 2 core processors do have their limitations. If you find yourself wanting a little bit more processing power on the CPU side of things, SimplyNuc does offer newer variants with an i5-8265U (NUC8i5INHX) or i7-8565U (NUC8i7INHX) with both having a Radeon 540X graphics chip and 8GB soldered down RAM Overall Review: Overall, this is an excellent SFF gaming, media consumption and productivity computer solution

Pros: With the Radeon newest drivers – it displays on a (nothing-special) AOC 4K monitor at 5120×2880 without any issues in Windows 10 professional. it powerful enough for Visual Studio, and while it isn’t the strongest compiler, it does the job. Running WSL in lieu of a hypervisor allows Windows/Linux cross-development. I’ve seen it run GTA online at 720p with no issues. Like the Islay Canyon and the Hades Canyon – the union of Intel Procs with AMD graphics is a win for professional workstations. I’d love to see NVidia GPUs get a similar treatment in one of their NUCs. Cons: Tear out the HDD or use it as a secondary. The NVMe is required these days. I really, really wish it had USB-C. Overall Review: I have really enjoyed my Crimson Canyon so far… I’ve mostly used it for Windows application development, I’m not much of a gamer. Holding out for Panther/Phantom Canyon as the replacement unless Apple drops some hot new Mac Mini.
